In Himachal Pradesh, the development and employment generation program under the MGNREGA scheme is emerging as a strong model of inclusive development for rural areas in providing social security amid COVID-19 pandemic. <br />'' <br />'' AIR correspondent reports the central and state government took the initiative during the period of lockdown to protect the economic interests of the workers and started MGNREGA works in the rural areas of the state. <br />'' <br />'' As a result, development   and infrastructure  work started in rural areas  benefiting unskilled laborers, which helped the people of this class  to get sources of income during the outbreak of Covid-19. The state government has also increased the wages of MGNREGA laborers from Rs 185  to Rs 198 per day. <br />'' <br />'' In Shimla itself, one thousand nine hundred eighty five  work is being done by deploying 10471 workers. In executing MGNREGA works convergence model of various developmental schemes has been adopted so that continuous work could be provided to the persons engaged in these works. It includes water harvesting tanks, land levelling, plantation and small irrigation projects in rural areas. <br />''
