Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that the move to hike excise duty on petrol and diesel was meant to shore up revenue to meet budget deficit without burdening the consumer. Talking to media on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, Mr Pradhan said that in legacy the NDA government inherited a bankrupt economy and the new government took this step to bring the economy on track.
