Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari today said his ministry plans to expand the network of highways from 96 thousand kilometre to 2 lakh kilometre very soon. He was addressing a transport and logistics summit in New Delhi.<br/><br/>Gadkari said his main focus is development of highways and construction of expressways as these will not only help save fuel but also time. He said, construction of 13 expressways has begun. These roads are being made of best quality material and will sport the latest technology.<br/><br/>The minister expressed hope that efforts are being made to further improve the road construction target to 40 km a day from the current 23 km per day. He, however, expressed anguish over the exorbitant cost of land acquisition.
