Highway connecting Ladakh with Kashmir closed to clear landslide debris

In Jammu & Kashmir, the Srinagar-Ladakh National Highway connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir will remain closed today to clear the debris of landslides. The landslides were triggered after cloudburst hit the Kullan village in Gund tehsil in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district on July 16th. <br/><br/>The highway was restored yesterday. The highway was damaged at Kullan, Gagangir and few other places leading towards Baltal and Sonamarg. Police Control Room official in Ganderbal told AIR this morning that vehicular traffic towards Baltal and Kargil has been temporarily suspended today to clear the rubble of landslides triggered after cloudburst hit Kullan and Gagangir areas on Srinagar Ladakh highway on July 16. <br/><br/>Several hundred stranded vehicles are being cleared today. Five persons lost their lives due to cloudburst. With prediction of overcast with intermittent short spells of light rainfall, there is no warning about heavy rainfall and the weather is improving. <br/><br/>Pahalgam based Joint Control Room Incharge Amarjit Singh said Amarnath Yatra is going on. Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 1342 yatries left Jammu Base Camp this morning to reach Yatra base camps in Kashmir. Around 2 lakh 45 thousand Yatris had darshan of the Ice Lingam at the Holy Cave till yesterday evening.
