Jury Award for Short Film at the ongoing 41st International Film Festival has been announced at Panajim, Goa. The highest award in the International category ‘Golden Lamp Tree’ was given to Fernando Uson Fornies of Spain for his film ‘Extinction-2’, while the second highest award – ‘ Silver Lamp Tree’ was given to Kolkota film maker Shumona Banarjee for her film ‘Kusum’. The prizes carry trophy, certificates and cash awards of Five lakhs rupees and Three lakhs. Chief Minister of Goa Digamber Kamath and MP Chairman of UB Group Vijay Mallaya was present at the prize distribution ceremony. Umesh Agrawal film on corruption ‘ Incurable India’ and ‘Charulata’ of Sangeeta Padmanabhan were awarded Jury Certificate of Appreciation Awards. In Environmental category of the short film section, film showing the benefit of organic farming- ‘Kaipat’ of Babu Kambrath and film on Odisha tribal ‘Niyamgiri’ by Suma Josoa got the ‘Vasuda’ awards.Earlier today at the film festival, renowned actor Nana Patekar urged the film makers to concentrate on quality of the work without being bothered for prospects of awards. He said refered to US based film maker Meera Nair, who said that Indian film industry is beaming with a lot energy and money, and if Indian cinema achieve the rigor and quality that at present it lacks in comparison to Hollywood, then Indian Cinema can certainly challenge Hollywood at the world level.
