Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah has said that it is high time that people should turn towards the use of the alternative sources of energy rather than depending on the energy generated by fossil fuels. <br/><br/>Speaking in a book release function at Jammu today, the Minister said that 40 percent of the country’s population still lives without electricity and about 85 percent of our fossil fuels are imported from other countries on which a considerable amount of the national economy is spent.<br/><br/>He said that the Government is making serious efforts to explore and promote the renewable sources of energy for using solar, wind and geothermal energy so that electricity could be made available to the far flung areas of the country.<br/>
