The Delhi Transport department has made high security registration number plates, HSRPs, mandatory for new vehicles from today. However, in the case of old vehicles, users have time to get new registration plates till 15th June. The regional transport office, RTO, in Burari installed the first HSRP in the city yesterday. As per the new policy, new vehicle owners will have to go to the local RTO to get the registration number. The Motor Licensing Officer, MLO, will issue an authorisation slip to the owner who will then approach the HSRP centre and pay the requisite amount to get the HSRP fixed. The centre will allot a date and time for installing the secure number plate to the owner. AIR correspondent reports Delhi will have 14 such centres with one at each RTO. A registration number will have reflective sheets of imperishable nature guaranteed for a minimum period of five years.
