A high-level meeting to review the preparations for the Commonwealth Games is in progress at the Prime Minister's residence. The meeting convened by Dr. Manmohan Singh is being attended by Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, Sports Minister Dr. M. S. Gill, Delhi Lt.Governor Tajender Khanna and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Ahead of the high-level meeting, the Home Minister Mr. P.Chidambaram reviewed the security situation in the Nationa Capital in view of the games. The meeting was attended by senior officials of Home Ministry, Delhi Police and Central Security agencies. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Delhi Police Chief Y.S. Dadwal reiterated assurance that foolproof security arrangements have been made for the Commonwealth Games. Delhi Chief Minister Mrs. Sheila Dikshit today visited the Commonwealth Games village several times to take stock of the maintenance and cleanliness facilities at the complex. Mrs. Dikshit's visits come after Centre directed Delhi government to take charge of the cleanliness drive in the games village. 40 officers from Delhi and Andaman Police Service have been deployed at the games village to oversee the cleanliness drive. Every apartment in the village has been connected with optical fibres for making available high speed broadband service including IPTV content and networking solutions. Over seventy countries are participating in the sporting event scheduled to begin on 3rd of next month. Meanwhile, the first batch of Athletes is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi tonight. When contacted, office bearers of the Commonwealth Games Organisating Committee did not give any specific details. The Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi, however, said that all the participating countries are taking part in the games. The Chief of the Commonwealth Games Federation Mike Fennel is in Delhi to have an overview of the preparations of the games. Earlier, he had expressed reservations at the hygenic conditions at the games village.
