Assam government has sounded high health alert to avert any outbreak of epidemics in the relief camps in violence marred districts. Thirteen people including five children have died so far in relief camps. State Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 117 doctors both from the Centre and the State, have been deputed in the relief camps. More than 93 thousand inmates have been diagnosed with fever, diarrhoea, injuries and dysentery.One hundred cases of malaria have also been detected. Special care has been taken for 2 thousand 428 pregnant women. Assam government has been distributing special kits for 8 thousand babies below two years at the relief camps. The summer vacation of educational institutions in the violence hit areas has been extended till 15th of this month.Meanwhile, around 76 thousand inmates have returned home so far from the relief camps. District administrations have closed 52 camps in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri district. A team of National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, will visit the violence marred districts tomorrow to take stock of the relief and rehabilitation works.
