High Court asks Centre to give Dronacharya award to former wrestling coach

Delhi High Court has directed the Centre to confer Dronacharya award on former chief national wrestling coach Vinod Kumar. The court allowed the plea of Kumar, who had moved against the Dronacharya Award selection committee for ignoring him for the honour.<br/> <br/>Kumar claimed that he had earned more points for his achievements of his wards at international tournaments than Anoop Singh Dahiya whose name was recommended by the selection committee for the award. Kumar said that his name was dropped by the committee because he was earlier awarded Dhyan Chand award.<br/> <br/>Affidavits and statement of marks of wrestlers like Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt and Amit Kumar, who were coached by Kumar, were presented to the court.<br/> <br/>Wrestling Federation of India had sacked Vinod Kumar as the chief national coach in May this year after his performance as mentor was found to be inadequate during the Doha Asian Championship.
