High Commission of India and other diplomatic offices in Sri Lanka prepare for the 9th International Day of Yoga with a series of events set to take place from 17th to 21st June 2023. The highlight of the celebration will be a mega public event at the Independence Square in Colombo on 17th June. The event, themed 'Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' will start at 6:45 am and is open to the public free of charge.<br />'' <br />'' Apart from this, yoga enthusiasts from around the world will connect as part of the International Day of Yoga celebrations on 21st of June. A 'Global Ocean Ring' will be formed by performing yoga at select port locations worldwide, with the High Commission in Sri Lanka hosting an event at the Port of Colombo to join this global endeavor. The events aim to promote wellness and solidarity among people worldwide, aligning with India's ongoing Presidency of the G20 and the theme of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to 'One Earth, One Family, One Future.'<br />'' <br />'' The International Day of Yoga was established on 21st of June each year following a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Sri Lanka was among the co-sponsors of the resolution, emphasizing the shared heritage of yoga and Ayurveda between India and Sri Lanka. Since 2015, Indian diplomatic offices in Sri Lanka have been commemorating the day with the participation of Sri Lankan leaders and the public, both in person and virtually during the pandemic. These events have consistently attracted thousands of participants, fostering a deep appreciation for yoga and its benefits.
