High alert sounded in Orissa and West Bengal coasts

Orissa government has asked all the collectors and chief district medical officers of southern and coastal districts of the state to remain alert. Leave of all officials likely to be part of the relief operation has been cancelled and members of Orissa State Disaster Mitigation Authority (OSDMA) have been sent to these districts. The Revenue Department in coordination with the Bhubaneswar Metrological Office is closely monitoring the movement of ‘Laila’ to take extra precautionary measures.<br/> The neighbouring state of West Bengal might also experience heavy rains and winds this evening because of Laila. Met officials have warned fishermen in all three states against venturing into the sea. Authorities have sounded an alert in Kolkata and the districts of East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly and Nadia. <br/>
