In Assam, security has been placed on high alert across the State following possible violence by underground militants ahead of banned ULFA outfit’s raising day on 7th of this month. The State Government has issued instructions to all the police stations to stay on alert and maintain a strict vigil in the vulnerable areas. Security has been beefed up in railway installations, bus stands, oil refineries and pipelines, important bridges, busy markets and other public places to stop activities of the militants. A strict vigil is being maintained in the inter-state boundary corridors to check infiltration of militants to the State. Intelligence network has also been strengthened. Meanwhile, a fierce encounter took place between a five-member ULFA militants’ group and the security forces at Takungosthi area on Assam-Nagaland border on Saturday. An ULFA cadre was injured seriously in the encounter while other members of the group managed to flee. An AK series rifle has been recovered from the wounded militant.
