High alert in Hyderabad

In Andhra Pradesh, high alert was sounded in Hyderabad following warnings from the Central Intelligence Agencies about terrorist activities in the city. City Police are conducting thorough search operations at various places in the city including Railways and Bus stations, public places, business areas and crowded malls and cinema theatres. Bomb squads are thoroughly checking the markets areas and police are frisking people for questioning. Security has been stepped up at places of worship, historical monuments, commercial establishments and vital installations.<br/> City Police Commissioner A.K. Khan said the alert was sounded in view of the recent bomb blasts in Bangalore and also to apprehend some suspected terror operatives believed to be hiding in the city. However, he said there was no need for panic as the police were on full alert and at the same time advised the public to be cautious about the movement of suspicious persons. Shopping malls, cinema theatres and shops have been directed to install metal detectors, CCTV cameras and deploy private security personnel to gear up security.<br/> All police stations in the city have been alerted and leave of police personnel cancelled till May 18, the third anniversary of the bomb blast at historic Mecca Masjid, in which 9 persons were killed.<br/>
