Hectic political activity is on in the national capital Delhi with strike affecting normal life in several parts of Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. TRS Chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao held another round of talks with the Congress General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday afternoon. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Azad appealed to all government employees in the region to resume their duties.
Mr. Rao is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh later this evening. He is also meeting the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj and CPI leader A.B. Bardhan to seek their support for a separate Telangana State. Congress party sources said that Mr. Rao is likely to meet the Congress Party Chief Mrs. Sonia Gandhi on Monday evening. On Saturday, Senior Congress leaders including Pranab Mukherjee, A.K. Antony, Ahmed Patel and Ghulam Nabi Azad met to discuss the issue while an All Party Meeting is on the cards in the next few days.
There seemed no respite for the woes that the common people are facing in Telangana region as the ongoing General Strike led by Telangana Joint Action Committee over statehood issue entered 21st day today. The pro-Telangana agitators are continuing their protest demonstrations across the region while the public representatives who tendered resignations are stressing the need to accept the same.
Meanwhile, hundreds of passengers have been stranded for several hours as some Hyderabad-bound private buses coming from other parts of the state have been stopped near Nalogonda the boarder district of Telangana region. Also the power cuts in Hyderabad and other urban areas in the state have gone upto six hours due to shortage as a result of the Coal Workers strike. The power supply to Industries has been affected for three days a week and some rural parts of the state are even 12 hour put.
On the other hand, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India has estimated the tangible loss of goods and services in the past 15 days at around 10,000 crore rupees. According to the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, average estimated loss would be 150 crore rupees a day.
