Hectic parleys underway in Nepal to resolve political deadlock

In Nepal, political parties continued their parleys to resolve the current parliament deadlock and pass the budget for smooth functioning of the government. Senior leaders of the ruling CPN (UML), Nepali Congress and the opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) met in Kathmandu today to discuss a way out to end the current political deadlock and pass the budget. Talking to newsmen after a meeting Maoist Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattartai said his party is ready to find a way to allow the passage of budget in the parliament even if parties fail to come to a consensus on all the issues.<br/>AIR correspondent C.K. Dorjee reports from Kathmandu that with the country reeling under severe financial crisis due to continuous disruption of parliament, leaders of Nepali Congress and CPN(UML) today agreed to pass the budget through all available means before the Nov. 20 deadline given by the opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) to begin their third phase of agitation.A meeting of the senior leaders of the two ruling parties held at the Prime Minister's official residence today decided to weigh all options for the approval of the budget if the Maoists don't come to an understanding to end the parliament deadlock. The Maoists who have been disrupting the parliament session since the fall of its government in May this year had allowed the budget to be placed in parliament four months back, which as not been passed so far. The opposition Maoists have been continuously disrupting the parliament session and held a series of street protests demanding civilian supremacy and threatened to launch an aggressive agitation if their demands are not met by the 20th of this month.’
