Hectic parleying among pol parties to decide Prez candidate

Hectic parleys are on among various political parties to decide their Presidential candidate. The National Democratic Alliance, NDA partners met today to take a call on the issue at senior BJP leader L K Advani's residence in New Delhi. On the other hand, the UPA partners are also meeting this evening to discuss its candidate for Presidentship.

The NDA has decided to adopt wait and watch policy on the Presidential poll. Addressing media after the meeting, Mr. Advani said that NDA is not in hurry and will closely watch the situation.

He said, BJP will be in constant touch with all leaders of non Congress parties on the issue . Mr Advani added that they will meet once again on the issue. He said it would have been better for the government to consult all the political parties for Presidential candidate.

BJP President Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Jaswant Singh , NDA convener and JD U leader Sharad Yadav, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Rout, SAD leader Naresh Gujaral and Janata Party leader Subramanium Swami were among the leaders who attended the meet .

Yesterday Congress President Sonia Gandhi held consultations with leaders of her party and UPA allies on the Presidential candidate. The Congress has ruled out Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's name as a Candidate for the president ship.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee strongly pitched for A P J Abdul Kalam’s candidature for the post of President. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi before leaving for Kolkata today, she said, Dr. Kalam will be the best candidate and his name was proposed by SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav today said that his party is not in favour of mid term polls and will continue outside support to the ruling United Progressive Alliance. In a reply to a question on whether his party will support Dr.A P J Abdul Kalam as presidential candidate, he said the party Mulayam Singh Yadav will take a decision over it.
