In Kerala, the world famous pilgrim center Sabarimala is witnessing unprecedented rush of devotees from across the country. Every year, more than 3 crore pilgrims visit the holy hill top shrine of Lord Ayyappa.
AIR correspondent reports, the two month long pilgrimage will conclude by the middle of January next year.
This year the number of devotees thronging the holy shrine of Lord Ayyappa in Sabarimala has gone up by almost fourteen per cent compared to last year.
As on December 21st, the total revenue of the temple has touched 103 crore rupees. Last year it was 83 crore.
Keeping in mind last year's stampede tragedy at Pullumedu, all round security and amenities have been increased considerably this year.
Kerala Police, police officials from other states and Rapid Action Force are ensuring maximum security in and around the temple.
Sixty surveillance cameras are in place. State Transport Corporation and railways have put in place elaborate arrangements to facilitate Sabarimala pilgrimage. Every day more than 7000 devotees benefit from the free food facility by the Travancore temple authority. Several private institutions are also engaged in free food distribution.
'Mandalapooja' rituals at Sabarimala will be held on 27th of this month. The four day procession of 'Thanka Anki', the golden attire to be adorned on the idol of Lord Ayyappa has started from Shreeparthasarathy temple in Aaranmula on Friday.
