Heavy rains wreak havoc in Telangana & AP

Several villages of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been marooned and road and communication links cut off following heavy rains for the past few days.

Major rivers like Godavari, Nagavali and Vamsadhara are in spate due to heavy rains occurring at higher riparian areas.

District authorities are gearing up for emergency evacuation as several rivers flowing at dangerous levels.

In Telangana, danger warning no-1 was issued at Bhadrachalam of Khamma district as water level in River Godavari crossed 45 feet last evening.

At Eturunagaram of Warangal district also flood water is at dangerous level.

About 90 villages in Khammam, Warangal and Adilabad districts were cut off from remaining areas with flood water flowing over roads, causeways and bridges.

District authorities are closely monitoring the situation and sought National Disaster Relief Forces to meet any emergencies. In Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, Vamsadhara River is on spate following heavy rains in upper catchment areas in Odisha.

Authorities have issued danger warning No-2 near Gotta barrage and released more than one lakh cusecs of flood waters downstream from the barrage. People in about 120 villages on the banks of the rivers were put on alert. The National Disaster Relief Forces are being sent to the affected areas as standby.

The Met officials have warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana today and tomorrow.
