In Bangladesh, as rescue operations continue amidst rising death toll in the landslide affected southeastern hilly districts, heavy rains are again lashing parts of Chittagtong Division triggering fears of more landslides. District authorities have evacuated over 4500 people to rescue centres and other safer places. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader visited the affected areas today and announced immediate disbursement of 50 lakh takas and 100 tonnes of rice to the affected families. Rescue operations are being concentrated in remote areas. Eight more bodies were recovered on Wednesday afternoon in Khagrachhari, Cox's Bazar and Chittagong.<br/><br/>An official told news agency PTI that they have recorded 152 deaths till Wednesday evening, adding that the death toll may increase as many are still missing and scores are injured. Rescuers are finding it difficult to reach remote areas where telephone and transport have remained cut. Troops were called out to remove landslide rubbles from Chittagong-Rangamati Highway.<br/><br/>Bangladesh's MeT office issued a warning on Wednesday predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at places over northeastern Sylhet and southeastern Chittagong administrative divisions during the next 24 hours. It is feared that the heavy downpour may trigger fresh landslides at hilly regions of Sylhet and Chittagong divisions.
