Heavy rains lash national capital

Heavy rains lashed the national capital this evening resulting in traffic chaos on waterlogged roads in several parts of the city.Traffic was affected at various places including Dhaula Kuan, Savitri flyover, Lakshmi Nagar, Badarpur, Moolchand, Kalkaji and Connaught Place due to waterlogging. According to the Met Department, 21 mm rainfall was recorded during the day while 26.8 mm rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours. The maximum temperature was recorded at 32.5 degree Celsius and minimum at 25.5 degrees. The humidity was recorded between 75 and at 97 per cent. Meanwhile, the water level of Yamuna river has marginally increased to 6 centimeter this evening from the level of 205.39 meter following the heavy downpour in the catchment areas. The Yamuna is still flowing above the danger level from last six days and reached the mark of 205.45 meter. According to the Delhi Flood Department, Haryana has released 2.65 lakh cusec water into the river this afternoon. The water level may increase up to the level of 205.60 meter tomorrow. Our correspondent reports that with the opening of the old Yamuna bridge yesterday, rail and road traffic has been restored. Officials of the Delhi government are keeping a close watch along the embankments of the river.
