Heavy rain and flood has disrupted normal life in many parts of the country. In Gujarat, 53 people died as heavy rain lashed northern parts of the state.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that 32 people have died in worst-affected Banaskantha district alone. A total of 14 teams comprising 592 jawans of different agencies including National Disaster Response Force, Border Security Force, State Reserve Police and 5 Air Force helicopters have been pressed into service for relief and rescue work. Around 3,000 persons have been rescued. Crop loss has been put at billions of rupees.<br/><br/>Landslides have blocked national add state highways in mountain states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Rivers are in spate in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and incessant rain as well as flooding has caused a lot of destruction in Rajasthan.<br/><br/>In West Bengal, the death toll in rain related incidents has gone up to 48. Flood situation continues to grim as fresh areas have been inundated due to rain and discharge of water from reservoirs. The situation is likely to further deteriorate as Damodar Valley Corporation, DVC, has decided to discharge 1 lakh cuesec of water from its reservoirs tonight. This may further aggravate the situation in flood affected areas in Murshidabd , Howrah , Hooghly , Birbhum and Burdwan.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that army has been called out at Purbasthali in Burdwan district to assist the civil administration.<br/><br/> 12 districts of the State has been affected in the current spell of flood in which around 37 lakh people have been marooned.<br/><br/> Meanwhile, a depression has formed over Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal. It has moved west-southwestwards and lies centred over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand about 70 km east-northeast of Ranchi. Due to this, rainfall would occur at most places in Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places during next 24 hrs. Strong winds with speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph would prevail around the depression centre during next 24 hours.<br/><br/> In Manipur, the entire valley and most of the five hill districts have been badly affected due to incessant rains during the last one week. There were also reports of large numbers of houses being swept away by flood and landslide in Khengjoy division.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, rescue work is on to save survivors after a landslide killed at least 20 people, including seven women, at a village in Chandel district yesterday. So far rescue workers were able to recover bodies of ten victims.
