In Sikkim, with heavy rains and dense fog continuously obstructing the relief and rescue works, the State Government is going on with rehabilitation works. AIR Correspondent reports that about 10 crore rupees have been distributed as relief in all the four districts so far. Following the collapse of two multi-storey buildings in Gangtok a couple of days ago, the State Government has formed an eight member team of engineers to identify the weak buildings in an around the capital. The team, headed by a Chief Enginerr of the Urban Development and Housing Department will submit its report to the Gangtok Municipal Corporation. It will also examine the week structures across the state later on. Meanwhile, efforts are on to restore water supply to Gangtok and other district headquarters and towns which got disrupted following the recent earthquake. On the other hand, one of the oldest monasteries of Sikkim, the Tholung Monastery in North district too is reported to have been damaged in the recent earthquake. The Monastery built in 1735 belongs to the Nyingma sect and was built by Lhatsun Chenpo Lama to keep Buddhist manuscripts and sacred relics safe from the invading Gorkhas from Nepal in the late 17th century.
