The North East monsoon has been active since four days bringing cheer to the farmers in the delta area. The entire State has witnessed continuous downpour with sufficient inflow of water in the reservoirs. Public works department authorities have expressed satisfaction at the water levels and say that the present quantum of rain would meet the demand for 20 days for the standing crops. At the same time four reservoirs which supply water to Chennai, the State capital have also recorded sufficient amount of rainfall in the catchments areas.<br/><br/>In the meanwhile the Met department has predicted heavy rain at a few places over coastal Tamilnadu. Rains continued to lash Chennai with water logging at low lying areas making it difficult for normal routine. Traffic jams and heavy downpour have thrown life out of gear for the chennaiites. The civic authorities are on their toes to clear water logging in the city. The Deputy Chief Minister Mr. M.K Stalin chaired a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on the preparedness of different government departments for the north-east monsoon and he also urged the authorities to arrange for disbursal of solatium to those affected.
