Heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai and its suburbs for the third consecutive day today, disrupting local train services which are considered to be the lifeline of the city.Office-goers had to face a lot of problems as all Central Railway suburban train services were hit between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Thane and beyond Karjat where a portion of the track was washed away on Sunday. The Harbour Line service was suspended between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Mankhurd and was being operated only between Panvel and Mankhurd. Delays also marred the services on Western Railway on account of the heavy rains. Long distance trains were also delayed due to the incessant rains. However, the local train services on the Central Railway are slowly resuming now.The Brhanmumbai Municipal Corporation declared a holiday for all civic schools to prevent difficulties for students. Meanwhile, major dams in the city are overflowing.The metrological department has forecast intermittent rains in parts of the city and suburbs while heavy rains accompanied by strong gusty winds in some areas for the next 24 hours.
