In Bangladesh, at least twelve persons have been killed and nearly 50,000 people rendered homeless in the coastal districts due to the recent tidal surges and heavy rain for three days till Saturday. The heavy downpour have inundated several villages with more than 2500 houses completely damaged and 45000 houses partially damaged. In addition to this several thousand hectares of standing crops have also been affected with nearly 29,775 hectares of crops being submerged in barguna district alone. Nearly 75 kilometres of the embankments have also been fully damaged while 415 kilometres was partially damaged due to the impact of the strong tides. The government has taken steps for distribution of food and cash to provide relief to the rain affected people. More than three thousand tonnes of rice has been allocated for the relief work. Meanwhile the Country's met department has cautioned that squally weather may affect the coastal areas of Bangladesh today. The maritime ports of chittagong, cox’s bazar and mongla have been advised to raise local cautionary signal number three and fishing boats and trawlers are advice not to venture into the Sea .
