Heavy rain pounds Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu

<span style="color: #222222;">The Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu continues to get pounded by very heavy rain. In the last twenty four hours, a whopping 39 centimeter rain has been recorded at Avalanche, followed by Upper Bhavani, 31 centimeter, both situated in the district. The Western Ghats and its adjoining regions in the state are receiving torrential rain for the past few days as the South West Monsoon is very active.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Meanwhile, over 40,600 cusecs of water from Kabini Reservoir in Karnataka has been released in the River Cauvery, as the catchment areas are witnessing copious inflow. The water is expected to reach the Stanley Reservoir at Mettur in Tamil Nadu in a few days. It has cheered the farmers in the Cauvery Delta region in the state.</span><br />

<span style="color: black;">The hilly district of the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu is getting pounded by very heavy rain for the past 24-hours.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">Upper Bhavani in the district has received 31 centimeters of rain in the last 24 hours and Avalanche area 22 centimeter rain.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">The India Meteorology Department in Chennai has warned that the situation may continue for the next 24 hours.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">Two teams of the State Disaster Response Force SDRF comprising 40 personnel are camping in the district.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">The National Disaster Response Force NDRF team is reaching the district headquarters Ooty very soon.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">All the rivers in the Nilgiris are in spate.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">The district collector Innocent Divya told reporters at Ooty that all the schools there have been converted into shelters for the people to stay whenever required.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">She said community kitchens would be installed wherever people come for shelter, along with medical teams and transport arrangements.</span><br />
