Heavy rains lashed several parts of the country claiming three more lives in Uttar Pradesh where flood-like situation prevailed in many districts with major rivers rising further.Official sources said, a 28-year-old woman and her two minor children died in UP's Etah district yesterday when the roof of their house collapsed over them due to incessant rains.Heavy rains lashed the national capital resulting in traffic snarls in many areas due to water logging. The rains also uprooted trees in many areas of the national capital.Heavy showers disrupted normal life in several parts of Himachal Pradesh triggering landslides and uprooting trees which led to disruption of power supply and telecommunication links at places.Chandigarh and its surrounding areas also received heavy showers which threw normal life out of gear. A downpour in the morning caused flooding of roads leading to traffic jams at several points in the city while some low-lying areas were under deep water.Rains also lashed Sonepat, Ambala, Karnal and a few other places in Haryana and Mohali and Patiala in Punjab bringing down the mercurywhich dropped by a few notches.Heavy rains triggered a landslide in Ghatkopar area in suburban Mumbai yesterday. Civic officials said, the landslide, which occurred around 6.20 pm at Milimd Nagar slums, buried half a dozen shanties. However, no one has been injured or dead. According to IMD, Colaba and Santacruz recorded 40.5 mm and 29.0 mm of rainfall respectively.Incidents of water logging were reported from many areas.However, road, rail and air traffic largely remained unaffected.The Met department forecast frequent spells of rain and showers to occur in parts of city and suburbs today.
