Heavy downpour in several parts of Karnataka has hit normal life since yesterday. The Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada district, said that several villages have been flooded forcing villagers to take shelter in schools and other public buildings. He said the volume of rain this monsoon has been heavier in the last three days. He informed that the disaster management team and machinery is pressed into service for rescue and rehab measures. At many places, the district administration deployed fiber boats belonging to the NCC naval wing with the help of home guards and the police to shift flood affected people to safer places. Several reports of flooding were reported from Hassan, Chickmagalur and Dakshina Kannada districts. Roads were inundated and train services hit due to incessant rain. According to the South Western Railways press release, the train services between Karwar and Mangalore under Konkan Railway was affected today following a landslide due to heavy rains in the area. Another route between Bangalore and Mangalore was also blocked after a light locomotive derailed in the hilly tracts between Sakleshpur and Puttur. Officials in South Western Railway have further added that an engine also derailed between Kadakaravalli and Donigul in Hassan district, after hitting a huge boulder that rolled on to the track due to a landslide.
