Heavy rain lashes Jammu division

In Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu division was lashed on Thursday with heavy rain which brought down the day temperature considerably. The rain started in the wee hours on Thursday and continued upto 11 a.m. The Jammu-Pathankot national highway got blocked for three hours in the morning due to flash floods in Kathua district. Heavy rain also triggered flash floods in several canals and river Ujh in Hiranagar and Kathua belt of the district. Air Force today rescued about 20 persons mostly Gujjars who got trapped in flash floods in Hariachak area of Kathua district due to flash floods in Ujh river. Meanwhile, due to inclement weather at Baltal and Nunwan-Pahalgam, the Amarnath Pilgrims who had left Jammu today for the holy pilgrimage have been stopped at Chanderkote and Batote.The pilgrims will be allowed to proceed after the weather improves in Kashmir Valley. However, the 300 km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway which had got blocked due to shooting stones at Penthial in the morning is now through for traffic.
