Heavy rain lash north India

Heavy rain lash north India and claim five lives in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

In Jammu division three persons have been killed in the calamity. A middle-aged man was swept away in flashflood in in Kathua district, while a teenager was washed away in Arnia belt in Jammu district.

A 6-year-old boy was killed when a mud house collapsed in Kathua district's Hatli belt. In Himachal Pradesh, two persons were swept away by swirling waters of swollen Chakki Khad while a cloudburst in Kangra district damaged over dozen houses, washed away cowsheds in Sadma village and damaged a primary school building in Lunj village.

Several inter-district roads in the state have been blocked for vehicular traffic due to the landslides triggered by the downpour.

In UP, the incessant rain continued to occur in several parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Some western districts also experienced light to moderate rain.

AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports that several terai districts have experienced flash flood due to rain on higher reaches of Nepal.

The rivers Rapti, Saryu and Ghaghra are in spate and have inundated several more areas in terai and eastern districts. The rivers Ghaghra has started falling in Barabanki but is still above the danger mark.

The river is 27 centimetres above the red mark in Ballia where the river Ganga is also in spate. The population in Do-aab area has been shifted to safer places. The met office has predicted intermittent rain in terai and eastern area during next 24 hours.

It was a pleasant day for residents of the national capital Delhi as temperatures settled below normal levels. The maximum temperature recorded was 32.9 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, while the minimum stood at 25 degrees celsius, one degree below average.

According to the Met office, the city will have a generally cloudy sky in the next 24 hours with one or two spells of rain and thundershowers likely to occur.

The weatherman said heavy rain is also expected in some parts of the capital on Monday. Meanwhile, water level in Yamuna river stands about a metre below the danger mark. Delhi Flood Control department said all arrangements are in place to meet any emergency in case of more rain .
