Twelve persons have been killed in Rajasthan as North India received widespread and heavy rains which brought normal life to a standstill at many places.While 10 people were killed in Jaipur, two were killed in Dausa district of Rajasthan.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took stock of the situation in the state by calling up Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over phone, a state government spokesperson said.Schools and colleges have been shut till the situation improves, the sources said.The capital Delhi received nearly 35mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.In Kashmir, a Border Security Force post and eight residential houses were swept away and five BSF troopers were injured and one was missing in a cloudburst near the Line of Control in Gurez sector in Bandipora district.The cloudburst occurred near Tulail, 140-km from Srinagar, officials said.Uttar Pradesh received moderate to heavy rainfall at many places in the past 24 hours as the monsoon remained active over the state.Widespread monsoon rains continued to lash parts of Haryana and Punjab for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, even as rainfall deficiency, which hovered around 70 per cent in the two states at the end of last month narrowed down.Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two states, was lashed by heavy rains earlier in the day on Wednesday.
