'Heavy rain in Uttarakhand disrupts road traffic; Water level of several river rises in Bihar

In Uttarakhand, incessant rainfall caused disruption of road links in the state. The Ghat-Dharchula National Highway has been closed to traffic at some places in Pithoragarh district, while Rishikes-Kedarnath National Highway is also reported closed between Sonprayag and Gaurikund.<br/><br/>BRO and PWD personnel are engaged in the opening of the highways. The State Government has issued an advisory to all the District Magistrates asking them to be vigilant and to take all precautionary measures for people's safety.<br/><br/>All the main rivers in the State are in spate. The Ganga is flowing near the danger mark in Haridwar district. In view of the rising water level of the river, flood posts along the river have been put on alert. The police are continuously patrolling along the riverbanks. The Met Department predicted heavy showers likely to occur at isolated places in the state.<br/><br/>In Bihar, water level of several rivers including Koshi, Ganga and Bagmati is rising following heavy rains in catchment areas of Nepal. AIR correspondent reports that two lakh, Forty Thousand cusic water has been discharged from the Koshi barrage during the last 24 hours. <br/><br/>The Bihar government has canceled leaves of engineers of the water resource department in view of flood threat. Engineers have been instructed to keep round the clock vigil on discharge of water in river Kosi from Barah region. Water level of river Kosi, Bagmati and Gandak is steadly increasing following release of 4 lakh cusecs water from Gandak and Balmiki nagar barrage. Flood water has entered in a scores of villages on the bank of rivers. Rail traffic on Jhanjharpur -Laukaha rail section has been disrupted due to over-topping of railway tracks.<br/><br/>Incessant rain is continuing throughout the state. Met department has predicted heavy rain in next 24 hours. The State Disaster Management Department has put its rescue and relief teams on high alert in vulnerable districts to meet any eventuality. Eleven companies of the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF)deployed in different locations to join rescue and relief operations in the event of flood.
