Heavy rain continues to batter several districts in Tamil Nadu, even as the death toll in rain related incidents have gone up to 123. With the met office forecasting more rains during the next 24 hours, schools in 9 districts including Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam,Thanjauvur, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Tiruchi , Pudukkotai, Tirupur, Sivaganga will be shut today. Reports from the Delta districts say that thousands of acres of standing paddy crops have been inundated by the heavy downpour. The rain has left a trail of destruction and the state government has distributed over 1 crore 31 lakhs rupees to the families of those killed and giving relief to the affected people. Meanwhile, the Mettur dam, the lifeline of the Cauvery delta touched the full reservoir level of 120 feet on Thursday evening, the 37th time in its 76 year old history. AIR correspondent reports that it is after a period of three years that the dam has touched its full capacity. Officials of the Water Resources Department say to maintain the level at 120 feet; the entire inflow has been discharged.
