In Tamil Nadu, heavy rain has hit southern districts of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari after a day of sunshine yesterday. Flood alert has been issued near Tharamaparani river banks as excess water is being released from dams. Sri Vaikuntam in Thoothukudi district recorded the highest rainfall of 9 cm and Tiruchendur recorded 7cm. <br/><br/>Met office has forecast heavy rain in southern districts of Tamil Nadu because of upper air circulation over Kumari Sea. In Tirunelveli heavy rain in catchment areas has filled up dams including Papanasam Manimutharu, Ramanadi and Sevalaru. <br/><br/>More than 40,000 cusecs water has been released into Thamaraparani leading to flood alert in low lying areas. In Thoothukudi heavy rain has led to water seeping into residential areas like Rajiv Nagar, Anna Nagara Miller Nagar. Rain has flooded arterial roads in the city affecting traffic.<br/><br/>In Cuddalore, relief measures are in full swing as rain has subsided. Water has drained out from many residential areas and most of the people from relief camps have returned to their homes. More than one lakh persons were treated in 1400 medical camps.In Kannya Kumari excess water released from Pechiparai, Perunchanny, Sithar have resulted in flood like situation in low lying areas.
