Heavy rain hits Mumbai hard

Heavy incessant rains lashed Mumbai and Parts of its suburbs on Thursday. It’s been continuously raining since last evening.According to the Met department, since Wednesday till 11.30 am this morning, the Colaba station of south Mumbai recorded 99.4 mm of rainfall while the suburban Santacruz station recorded 127.6 mm of rainfall.According to the civic body control room officials, water logging was reported from some low lying areas of Virar, Nalasopara and Vasai.Road traffic has been affected in these areas. Suburban local trains on Central and Western lines are also running 10 to 20 minutes behind schedule. The city is also having overcast skies.According to the weather bureau, in the next 24 hours, frequent spells of rain or showers would occur in parts of city and suburbs with possibility of heavy rain in some areas.Meanwhile, Konkan region of Maharashtra, especially Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts have been receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall since last four days leading to flood like situation in some of its areas.Rivers and lakes in most parts of these regions are flowing with full capacity while some have crossed the danger level. Road traffic has also been largely affected in these areas due to water logging.Continuous rains on Thursday inundated the Pithdhaval river bridge due to which the Mumbai and Goa highway has also been closed. Farm lands in Sindhudurg district have also been inundated. Till 8.30 Thursday morning Ratnagiri district recorded 133 mm of rainfall with Sangameshwar recording maximum of 211 mm rainfall.
