Many more villages have come under the grip of flood as several rivers are in spate in Uttar Pradesh. Heavy release of water from Banbasa barrage and barrages in Nepal has shot up the water level in the Ganga, Yamuna, Ramganga, Sharda, and Ghagra rivers. AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports that the river Ghaghra is flowing above the danger mark at Elgin Bridge in Barabaki, Ayodhya and Ballia and maintaining a rising trend. Ganga has become steady in Ballia but is rising in Kannauj and Kanpur. Ramganga is flowing over one metre above red-mark at Moradabad while river Sharda has crossed the danger mark at Pallia Kalan in Lakhimpur. AIR correspondent reports, that around two hundred more villages with a population of around 2 lakhs have been submerged by flood water. In Uttarakhand, more than 200 houses have been damaged due to rain in several parts of the state. Pithoragarh, Champawat, Almora in Kumaon division and some other places in Garhwal region were cut off for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday due to blockage of roads. Officials said two more persons lost their lives killed in rain related incidents in the last 24 hours. In Assam, the flood situation in Dhemaji district has further worsened due to incessant rains during the last 12 hours. The District administration has recovered three bodies swept away on Monday by the flood waters of Gai River. A Police search is on to trace missing persons. Meanwhile, the death toll in the recent wave of floods have increased to 13, one child was swept away last night at Dihiri village of the district. A population of around 2 lakh 50 thousand in 327 villages has been affected in four districts of Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Jorhat and Dhubri.Though the condition of 3 districts are stated to be improving , the situation in Dhemaji district is continued to be grim for the fourth consecutive day. More than 1 lakh 55 thousand people in Dhemaji still reel under flood. But the road communication at Samarajan has been restored this morning, bringing a great relief to the flood affected people. Also, the construction of two bailey bridges at Sisi -Borgaon -Tokobari is going on war footing. It is expected to be completed by Saturday.
