In Tamil Nadu, heavy rain continued to play havoc in the coastal districts disrupting normal life. Offical sources have put the death toll in rain related incidents to 170. There seems to be no respite from the fury of the rain, as more downpour has been forecastfor the coastal districts during the next 24 hours. Schools in 12 districts including, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, will remain closed today. Meanwhile, senior state government officials visited the rain affected Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Rameswaram, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Tuticorin and Sivaganga districts interacting with the affected people to have first hand information about the damages and to make an on-the-spot assessment on the extent of damages. They will submit a report to the government. The state cabinet will meet tomorrow to discuss the report and will review the status of relief works being carried out.
