Heavy rain lashed entire Kutch and Suaratshtra region of Gujarat since last night disrupting normal life in the region. AIR Correspondent reports that 100 to 200 millimeter rain was recorded in the border district of Kutch which was facing water problems. Water reservoirs, dams and ponds have been overflowing in the arid kutch region. People have welcomed the rain. In Andhra Pradesh, several rivers, streams and rivulets are in spate due to incessant rains that battered parts of Coastal and Telangana regions for last three days. The south-west monsoon turned vigorous under the influence of a low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal. Heavy rainfall recorded up to 16-18 cms at some places in Khammam, Karimnagar, Warangal, Srikakulam and East Godavari districts with excess rainfall received by the state going up to 25%. According to met officials, more rain likely for next 24 hours. Meanwhile, District Collectors have been directed to be on constant vigil to prevent loss of life and property as several parts of the State recorded heavy rainfall for past 24 hours. Gates of Prakasam Barrage across river Krishna in Vijayawada have been opened to release about 57,000 cusecs of flood water downstream. Revenue and irrigation officials have been instructed to take necessary steps to evacuate people likely to be affected.
