Heavy rain continues to lash several parts of country

<span style="color: #222222;">Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be reaching Belagavi in Karnataka today morning. She will visit flood affected areas and relief camps in Belagavi and Bagalkote. The rain and flood has affected 14 districts across the state. Over two lakh people are evacuated till now from marooned villages and over one lakh fifty thousand people have taken refuge in the relief camps. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has announced five lakh rupees compensation to the family of those killed in the flood and rain. <br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The government has released 100 crore rupees under the State Disaster Response Fund to 14 districts, of which Rs 25 crore will go to the worst-hit Belagavi. A total of 37 teams comprising of NDRF, army columns, SDRF, navy and Coast Guard are taking part in rescue and rehabilitation efforts in different parts of the state. AIR Correspondent reports that lanslide in Kodagu district yesterday killed seven people as torrential rainfall continues to pound Kodagu. Several rivers in Karnataka, including Cauvery, were flowing above the danger mark. The water levels are expected to rise further as heavy rainfall has been forecast today in Malnad and Dakshina Kannada districts. <br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Those living along the banks of Netravati river from Uppinangadi to Mangaluru have been asked to move to safer places. In view of rising water level of Tunga river, the public living near the banks are requested to move from their houses to nearest relief camps. Indian Navy: Teams deployed in Mallapur village near Kadra &, Kaiga in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka evacuated over 2219 people till yesterday. <br />'' <br />'' Heavy rain also continues to wreck havoc in Kerala. Rescue and relief operations are on war footing in the state.  AIR correspondent reports that  death toll rises above 40 in the state in heavy rain and landslides.Red is issued in 7 districts today.<br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Around 64000 people are in 738 relief camps in the state.12 teams of central disaster forces are being deployed in disaster hit regions. Defence, central, state disaster forces, public at large are actively involved in rescue operation across the state. Authorities had urged public to be as water level in rivers and dams had risen.Met dept predicts rain to decrease today but revive again on Aug 14, 15 and 16  due to the formation of a depression in Bay of Bengal. Fishermen are warned from venturing into the sea. <br />'' <br />'' In Madhya Pradesh, rain continued to lash most parts of the state sending many rivers and drains in spate and hitting normal life. AIR correspondent reports that showers are lashing almost the entire Madhya Pradesh since the last two days. Sluice gates of seven of the 28 dams in the state have been opened due to rise in their water level. <br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Narmada River was flowing 7 meters above its danger mark in Barwani district yesterday. Around 1,000 people were rescued and sent to safer places in Barwani and Dhar districts following flooding caused by heavy downpour in the last 24 hours. Fifteen sluice gates of the Bargi dam in Jabalpur district were also opened following incessant rain. <br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">MeT department warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in 21 districts, including Rajgarh, Guna, Sehore, Harda, Hoshangabad, Ujjain and Indore today. </span>

Heavy rain continues to lash several parts of country

In Uttar Pradesh, the flood situation has further worsened in western, Terai and eastern region due to torrential rain and heavy release of water from different barrages. More than 400 villages and thousands of hectares of cultivated land has been submerged into flood water. At least 7 people have lost their lives in rain-flood related incidents in three districts. The rivers Ganga, Yamuna, Sharda, Ghaghra are flowing above the danger mark at several places. The water has entered Dudhwa National Park endangering the wildlife. The district administration has launched relief work in the affected districts. While, Medium to heavy showers lashed the national Capital for the fifth consecutive day today. The showers, which hit the city early this morning, followed a heavily overcast sky since last night. The rainfall, while bringing down the mercury, also caused water logging and traffic jams in many areas yesterday. The city could witness more showers with the weatherman forecasting a generally cloudy sky in the city in next 24 hours with rains and thundershowers in few areas some of them likely to be heavy. Gearing into action following a rise in the level of Yamuna river due to incessant rain in Delhi and neighbouring areas, the Delhi Government said it is fully prepared to meet any situation of flood. Situation in the low lying areas of the national capital has worsened with water level at the Yamuna crossing 205.19 metres, 36 cm above the danger mark. In Punjab, water level in reservoirs of three dams Bakhra, Pong and Ranjit Sagar is going up daily. Bhakra reservoir has reached upto 1674 ft. while it can be filled up to 1680 ft. only. Level of water in Pong Dam is 1375 ft. while it can be filled up to 1390 ft only. Water level in Ranjit Sagar dam is 1710 ft. while its capacity is upto 1729 ft. Bhakra Beas Management Board has called a meeting of partner states of these dams on 26th to discuss the situation arising after increase in water level. Meanwhile, the Bihar Government has sounded an alert in North-Bihar districts in view of heavy discharge of water in the Kosi barrage at Birpur. Water Resources Department Secretary Ajay Naik cautioned that Disaster Management Department to remain prepared for any unforeseen development as emergency intervention. He says the Government is much more concerned with the safety of the eastern- Kosi embankment in the downstream of the river near Birpur barrage. AIR correspondent reports that till date Kosi has not created any problem, except for the villagers falling between eastern and western embankment. No other area has faced floods during the current season.
