Heavy rain caused widespread damage to life and property in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, the heavy rain has caused widespread damage to life and property during past 24 hours. Six people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents during the period. Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports that the rain is lashing a major portion of eastern UP for past four days. 10 to 20 centimetres of rainfall has occurred in Gorakhpur, Basti and Faizabad divisions, triggering the spate in major rivers, Ghaghra, Saryu, Rapti, and Burhi Gandak. More than hundred houses have collapsed while electric supply has been snapped as the water is logged into the power houses.AIR correspondent reports that two persons each died in Ambedkarnagar and Siddharthanagar while one each died in Sant Kabirnagar and Basti due to house collapse, drowning and electrocution.
