Heavy rain affects normal life in Karnataka,Maharashtra

In Karnataka, normal life has been affected due to heavy downpour since the last four days. In Hassan, rain continues to lash various parts of the district. However the water is receding from low lying areas of Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Chickmagalur and Udupi.AIR Correspondent reports, the rain and flood situation in Karnataka is showing improvement on Monday. The home guards and disaster management teams have fanned out to rescue people stranded on elevated areas.Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Krishnaiah has informed that administration is trying to restore road service between Hubli and Mangalore.South Western Railways sources say that trains operating on Konkan railway line are diverted near Wadi and Jolarpet. The damage caused by a boulder in Sakleshpura has however been cleared and train services have resumed there.The Chief Minister is likely to hold video conferencing with Deputy Commissioners Monday afternoon to know the exact damage caused by heavy downpour since previous four days.In Maharashtra, normal life remains affected due to incessant rain. Many trains plying on the Konkan Railway between Mumbai and Goa, Karnataka and Kerala have been cancelled and some are diverted.On Monday, five trains on the Konkan Railway route have been cancelled, one train has been partially cancelled and routes of seven trains have been diverted.AIR correspondent reports Sindudurg district received a total of 664 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The met department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours in Sindudurg and the administration has issued a high alert in the district.
