Heavy polling was witnessed in assembly elections in Nagaland and Meghalaya

Preliminary reports from Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer say, about 90 per cent of the electorates had cast their votes before voting ended this evening. Polling was held to elect 59 members of the 60-member state assembly.

Polling remained by and large peaceful throughout the state barring minor scuffles between the supporters of contesting candidates at three different places of the state.

Polling officials are now on their way to concerned district headquarters with Electronic Voting Machines and other polling materials.

In Meghalaya, 81 percent of voters exercised their franchise to elect 60 memebers of the new assembly.
