Moderate to heavy voter turn out was reported in today's polling to 121 Lok Sabha seats spread over 12 states. 77 assembly constituencies in Odisha also went to the polls today.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Election Commission officials said, maximum voter turnout was recorded in West Bengal with 78.89 per cent followed by 74 per cent in Manipur , 70 per cent in Odisha and over 69 per cent in Jammu and Kashmir. The polling was by and large peaceful barring Jharkhand which witnessed minor Maoist attack.
In Maharashtra, 54.67 per cent of voting was reported for 19 Lok Sabha seats. 68 per cent of polling was witnessed for all 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka .
Rajashthan had its first phase of poll for 20 Lok Sabha constuencies today and 63 per cent polling was recorded. Madhya Pradesh witnessed 54 per cent voting for 10 parliamentary segments.
In Bihar, the voter turn out was 56 per cent for 7 parliamentary constituencies . Eleven Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh saw 62 per cent voting while Jharkhand also recorded 62 per cent of voter turn out
The officials said an FIR was registered against RJD candidate from Patliputra constituency and daughter of Lalu Prasad Misa Bharti for entering unauthorizedly into a polling compartment after which she had a ruckus with a group of voters.
