‘Heavy polling in 2nd phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal

In West Bengal, heavy polling was reported in the second phase of elections to the state Assembly. According to preliminary report, about 77 percent of voting was recorded in the 50 constituencies in 3 districts – Murshidabad, Nadia and Birbhum – that are covered in this phase of polling.Voting was peaceful and tight security arrangements were in place for the elections. 293 candidates were in the fray. Over 93 lakh 51 thousand voters were eligible to exercise their franchise.Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta told our Correspondent that 79 Electronic Voting Machines have been replaced due to technical snag. Boycott of votes were also reported from 12 booths in Murshibad district and 4 in Nadia district on local issues.
