Heavy monsoon rain lashing the northern belt in the fast few days have subsided as the flood situation eased in Punjab-Haryana region. In flood-hit areas of Haryana's Kurukshetra and Ambala and Punjab's Ludhiana, water started receding though many places remained submerged, affecting road traffic, especially on Ambala-Hisar highway. <br/><br/>However, rail traffic was restored. Fresh breaches of canals in Sangrur district of Punjab flooded some 50 villages. <br/><br/>Army personnel were engaged in rescue operations and for plugging breaches. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, hot conditions were back in the national capital where the temperature showed a rising trend in the absence of rains.<br/><br/>Monsoon showers eluded the city due to the weather system shifting to the Himalayan foothills, just four days after the seasonal rain phenomenon hit Delhi. <br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh, the monsoon continued to elude eastern districts of the state. However, major rivers including Ganga, are rising due to incessant rains in the last two days in western parts of the state. <br/><br/>A high alert was sounded in over 12 villages situated along the river after water-level neared the danger-mark at Brij Ghat and Bijnore Barrage.<br/><br/>In Himachal Pradesh, mercury rose marginally as weather remained mostly dry. Nahan in Sirmaur district was the only place to receive rain.
