The severe heat wave conditions prevailing in Nagpur and adjoining districts in Vidarbha region aggravated today with the mercury soaring to a new high during the on-going summer which was hovering around 45 degrees Celsius for the last few days.Nagpur city recorded maximum temperature of 46.9 degrees Celsius registering the highest maximum temperature of the current summer season today. Wardha with 47 degrees Celsius was another hot spot while Brahmapuri and Chandrapur registered the highest temperature of 47.1 degrees Celsius in the region for the day. The heat wave conditions are expected to continue in the region for the next couple of days, as per the information received from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Nagpur. The daily activities of the local populace have been affected to a great extent and people in this region are having a tormenting time due the scorching heat coupled with the scarcity of water and load shedding. The Government hospitals in each of these districts have been geared up to meet the challenges emerging from the heat wave conditions including sun strokes and other heat-related ailments. Nagpur city had recorded a season high of 47.4 degrees Celsius on May 02, 2009. Earlier, the highest maximum temperature of 47 degrees Celsius was registered on May 7, 2001 and May 18, 2003 in Nagpur and the highest maximum temperature recorded the in the history of the city was 47.8 degrees Celsius on May 26, 1954.
