Heat wave condition prevails in Kolkata

A heat wave-like condition prevails in the Kolkata metropolis and its suburban areas. The mercury rose to 41 degrees Celsius, the highest in this summer, a weatherman informed today. Though there was not much humidity in the air the scorching heat, added to the woes of people.<br/> <br/>The MET office has predicted that temperature would go up and a heat wave like condition is likely to prevail in the next 48 hours. <br/><br/>They also said there was no immediate chance of rains as the sky is likely to remain clear. <br/><br/>Power production across the state has dipped by nearly 500 to 600 Mega Watts. The power department sources said there is a huge shortage of coal supplies, affecting production and supply of electricity.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the State Government has requested the consumers in the city and its suburban areas to shun from using air conditioners at homes, hotels and offices from 6 in the evening, to 10 at night. The power department sources also said, there would be power cuts across the state to minimize shortfall of generation.
