The heat wave in eastern parts of the country claimed four more lives in West Bengal today even as the north remained slightly cooler due to the showers last evening.In Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 38.2 degrees celsius providing much needed relief to capitaldenizens who had been facing temperatures above 40 degreescelsius for the last over one week.With the four deaths reported today, the cumulative toll in West Bengal rose to 52.Officials said, seven people died of a sunstroke in Purulia district in the past seven days. According to Police, a middle-aged person diedtoday after he suffered heat-related diarrhoea at Hingalganj, in North 24-Parganas district. In some districts in south Bengal, including themetropolis, it rained this morning for an average 30 minutesgiving relief to people from the intense heat of the lastseveral days but the sun soon started toblaze again. Showers in most parts of Northern region yesterday hadbrought the mercury down providing respite to the peoplesuffering the brunt of heat wave. People in parts of Punjab and Haryana also heaved asigh of relief with mercury dropping by up to five notchesbelow normal yesterday. With rain lashing various parts of the region, maximumtemperature fell below 40 degree C in both the states.
