Heat resistant paddy variety to be made available to farmers

The heat resistant paddy variety will be made available to farmers in next couple of years. The research to develop the paddy verity which will resist at least five more degree celsius heat is under advanced stage.<br/><br/>Director of the Hyderabad-based Indian Institute of Rice Research, Dr Ravindra Babu told this to reporters today.<br/><br/>He said jink-rich paddy veriety developed by the IIRR will provide nutrition security especially to pregnant women and children.<br/><br/>He said the new variety will be given to farmers in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka this season for developing seed.<br/><br/>He said the ICAR laboratory will distribute the seed from next year onwards to farmers.<br/><br/>The institute also developed a low glycemic paddy verify which is useful to type-2 diabetic patients.<br/>Dr Ravindra Babu also said the institute is open to work with the private partners in propagating the new verities.
